FTP
FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" and is used to upload and download files to and from the net. We will be using the FTP software program inside Dreamweaver. Last thing to do before we FTP is to check that we have no spaces in any filenames (html/gif/jpeg). Files with spaces in their names will be rejected.
To FTP we need to know the username and password of your web-site or if you don't have this, you can log onto www.atspace.com and sign up for free web-space. Create a subdomain for your site while you are there.
Exercise - uploading files
Open the site manager.

Double-click on your sites name and open up the site you have already created by clicking on 'Edit'.

Keep clicking 'Next' until you get to remote server connection.
Fill in the form as follows
The loginname is whatever name you used to create the account. The FTP password is the same as your account password. The sitefoldername is the domain name or subdomain you have created for that site.
Open the ftp window by clicking on the icon.
![]()
Now, to connect, simply click the 'Connect' button at the top of the
screen. If your Internet connection is active, you will be connected to
your remote site.

To upload files, select them and click on the UP arrow to put them on
your remote site.
Looking at your site online
You will also need to know the address of the Internet Service Provider's standard web-site (so you can look at your site on the internet). For atspace it is sitefoldername.atspace.com
