When making a website...

  1. Decide what pages you will have
  2. Decide how your user will navigate from one page to the next
  3. Create a design in an imaging editing package incorporating the navigation you've designed
  4. Test design on different colour depths to see how it looks
  5. Check it with www.vischeck.com (on-line) or aDesigner (download) to make sure colour blind and other visually impaired readers can see it ok
  6. If any problems modify design and colours until design is ok
  7. Cut up design and create layout page
  8. Save as Template
  9. Create style sheet attached to template - use relative text sizes
  10. Create some pages from the template
  11. Test site on different browsers to see how they look - IE and Firefox
  12. If problems, redesign template and test again till ok in all browsers
  13. Test on different computer systems - Window and Mac
  14. If problems, redesign template and test again till it works on all systems
  15. Evaluate site using real users - watch them to see if they are having difficulties with anything, particularly navigation or colour, is the content relevant?
  16. Modify site to ease any difficulties
  17. Finish creating pages
  18. Get server space - recommend www.atspace.com for free hosting, or contact ilikecake for a paid for account on our hosting package
  19. Get domain name if required - again you can contact ilikecake to purchase this if needed
  20. Upload site to internet using FTP
  21. Submit to search engines using the Open Directory Project
