Walk Cycle Animation

The following tutorial will take you through the process of creating a simple cast to time animation. The tutorial starts in Photoshop, where the images are created. This is the hard part. Once you have a series of images, the final Director part is relatively simple.

Create body segments

The first thing you need to do is to create the individual segments of the body. A separate moveable shape is needed for each of the following:

  1. the left thigh
  2. the right thigh
  3. the left calf
  4. the right calf
  5. the left foot
  6. the right foot
  7. the left upper arm
  8. the right upper arm
  9. the left lower arm
  10. the right lower arm
  11. the left hand
  12. the right hand
  13. the body
  14. the head
  15. the neck

They need to be separate so that you can animate them all independently.

Once you have created your basic shape you can then begin the actual animation.
